Auspicious red and white "Kouhaku"
This is an Iyo name stone with a mixture of red wood grain and white stone.
The Iyo wood grain of the past was called "tiger" and was treated as a third-class product. Compared to white stoneware, which was the highest quality product at the time, tiger wood grain is coarse, and it cannot be used as a raw material for ceramics, so it is presumed that the reason it was classified as a third-class product was that it was produced in large quantities. However, Iyo wood grain harvested from current mining sites cannot be said to be third-class in general. Compared to Iyo wood grain harvested from past mining sites, there is a wide variety of grain sizes and hardness, with significant individual differences, and it is also highly valued as an ornamental product due to its gorgeous appearance.
"Aka-mokume" is characterized by its red appearance among Iyo wood grains, and many of them are very hard and have a high grain size. However, this specimen is medium hard, has a smooth grinding feel, and is of a grain size suitable for a medium finish.
And there is a mixture of white stone, which is said to be the highest quality stone in Iyo.
By mastering the sharpening of different patterns, you can create a variety of ripple patterns with just one whetstone.
It also has a ring-shaped pattern called a "ring," making it a rare gem with high aesthetic value.
